PIXI BY PETRA SKIN TREATS GLOW MUD CLEANSER REVIEW

The Pixi Skin Treats range is popular among many, I first heard about The Glow Mud Cleanser (£18 for 135ml), available at Marks and Spencers, Target and Cult Beauty, through big name bloggers like Caroline Hirons and Jasmine Talks Beauty. I take their word as gospel and trust their opinions when it comes to skincare because they know their shit. I wanted to try something from the Pixi line, their iconic mint green packaging is like a breath of fresh air and to be honest I felt like I was missing it out. Back then the hype surrounded the Glow Tonic, which is what I originally planned to purchase but it was sold out everywhere, so I settled on this generous tube of “deep pore cleansing mud that gently exfoliates while purifying for radiant skin“. I was not disappointed.
This cleanser is best used in conjuction with another product, whether it be an oil cleanser, micellar water or ordinary face wash/scrub. I use it after washing my face with the Simple Daily Exfoliating Scrub and it really is the nicest sensation when you take the Glow Mud Cleanser off. It is recommended to be used both morning and evening, apply a coin sized amount onto damp skin, massage gently in circular motions for approx 30 seconds and then rinse away.

There are many reasons why I love this product. The ingredients are probably the biggest attraction in my opinion. It has everything you need: oils to hydrate, mud to detox, glycolic acid to exfoliate. It does contain fragrance which may cause issues with some people, but I find the scent very inoffensive. The formula is creamy and thick, it softens when applied to damp skin and just leaves my face feeling like brand new. I understand why this range is called Skin Treats because it genuinely feels like a treat for your skin. I like the squeeze tube and the flick-up cap, unfortunately my tube fell out of my bathroom window so the lid snapped off and there is a gigantic crack in the opening, hence the lack of a photo, but be assured I have used it to death. There is still a decent amount of product left too which is great as it is not particularly cheap.

Ingredients: Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Cetyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Diatomaceous Earth, Glycerin, Glycolic Acid, Sodium Glycolate, Lauroamphocarboxyglycinate and Sodium Trideceth Sulfate, Squalane, Anthemis Nobilis Flower (Chamomile) Extract, Saponaria Officinalis Leaf/Root Extract, Hexylene Glycol (and) Fructose (and) Glucose (and) Sucrose (and) Urea (and) Dextrin (and) Alanine (and) Glutamic Acid (and) Aspartic Acid (and) Hexyl Nicotinate, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil, Corylus Avellana (Hazelnut) Seed Oil, Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Xanthan Gum, Fragrance, Chlorphenesin, Guar Gum, Sodium Hyaluronate, Citric Acid.
The ingredients got me to thinking how this product would work as a mask so I tried it out this very morning. I applied a generous amount to dry skin and left it to sit for about ten minutes, before rinsing it off with warm water. It looks sludge-like when initially applied but when you wash it off it turns into a white, almost milky, cleanser. It took a good five minutes to wash off so definitely apply less product than I did if trying this out a coin for each half of the face would be more than enough. My skin felt baby smooth and honest to God brighter and less red immediately after removal. My skin is tingling most likely due to the glycolic acid so be mindful of that. In future, I would use it again as a mask but apply less and for a shorter duration. Be sure to follow up with good skincare and SPF.
Overall, I don’t have a single bad thing to say about this product. I recommend using it as a second cleanse after going in with your usual product first to remove makeup as you really want this to be in contact with your skin not your makeup. When I first used this product I was disappointed, I don’t know what I expected from a cleanser but I thought my skin would be glowing, radiant and flawless after a few uses. That is not the case at all. I think the texture of my skin improves the more I use it and my skin just feels cleaner and better cared for. Highly recommend this product to anyone who likes to exfoliate but hates that tight, stripped feeling that comes with most affordable mud cleansers. £18 is steep but the tube will last and it is not only a great cleanser but a fab mask too.
Have you tried anything from Pixi by Petra?
