I really wanted a do-it-all 2-in-1 highlight and contour concealer for my sister’s wedding. I see the NYX Cosmetics Sculpt & Highlight Face Duo all over social media in those cool little Instagram makeup tutorials and these muas make it look quite effective so when I went to Boots last week I picked one up. Judging by the pictures and based on some of the people I follow I got the shade Almond & Light. Let me start right here by saying this is way too light for me, I thought because it was suitable for “medium” skintones and I am a “medium skintone” at least in most foundations this would work, but it was really way too light.
I don’t want to beat around the bush, so this specific product was a straight fail for me. It wasn’t very pigmented, the colours and undertones were off for my skin colour (which I take full responsibility for but I swear on my life the girl on the packaging was two shades darker than me). I didn’t find it blended particularly well with my foundation, it was a little patchy and required using a brush rather than a sponge to blend properly and occasionally a drop of oil. I don’t know if I just picked up a dry one and got unlucky but overall a massive disappointment. The concealer side had all the same issues and really all I use it for is as an eyeshadow base at this moment in time. I don’t even want to buy a better shade match at this point and I wouldn’t recommend. I think the LA Girl Pro Concealers (£5) are a much better option both for concealing, colour correcting and highlighting. Their shades are really pigmented and work gorgeously on top and beneath foundation great for events and weddings where you want to look extra snatched.
